ACTION ALERT: 48 Hours to Save the ELA

Council of Canadians members headed north from Thunder Bay this morning to start a sit-in at the Experimental Lakes Area (ELA) over the weekend. With only 2 days left before March 31st , when federal funding runs out for the ELA, we want to put pressure on the Ontario and Manitoba governments to provide interim funding to save the facilities.

Despite massive public opposition, the Harper government has not wavered since it announced that it would no longer fund the ELA last spring. It costs only $2 million per year to run the ELA yet the research is priceless.

This last-ditch effort to save the ELA is part of an on-going Council of Canadians campaign to save the world-renowned research centre. We are asking the premiers of Ontario and Manitoba save the ELA by contributing $1 million each annually until the federal funding is re-instated.

Take Action!
